Marcia Henry Liebenow, violinist, is Concertmaster of the Peoria Symphony Orchestra and teaches violin, viola, and chamber music at Bradley University. She leads an active career as a soloist and chamber musician across the United States and abroad. Her performances have been broadcast in Europe and also in the United States, including National Public Radio's Performance Today. In October 2007 her CD of the Grieg Violin Sonatas with pianist Antonio Pompa-Baldi was released by Centaur Records.
Marcia performed the Barber Violin Concerto with the Samara Philharmonic Symphony in Russia, has played in Germany, Ireland, and Wales, and served as Primo Violino at Orvieto Musica in Italy in addition to her concerto performances in the United States. In the summer she teaches and performs at the Birch Creek Music Festival in Wisconsin, the Warebrook Contemporary Music Festival in Vermont, the Peoria Bach Festival, and has been a faculty artist at Red Lodge Music Festival since 1990. Recently she presented recitals in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Washington, Idaho, Maryland, and Illinois. She often presents master classes and workshops and adjudicates string competitions.
She is a founding member of the Concordia String Trio, the River City String Quartet, and the jazz quartet Marcia Henry + 3. The Concordia String Trio explores and expands the eclectic repertoire of an under-appreciated genre - the string trio, juxtaposing pieces from the standard string trio repertoire with compositions written for them and with little-known works of great composers. The trio has presented concerts and workshops in Texas, California, Vermont, Missouri, Illinois, and Boston. A CD recording of the trio’s first premiere was released on the Capstone label, and a contract has just been signed to record a CD of Viennese works for Centaur Records.
In 2006, the ArtsPartners of Central Illinois honored Marcia for her creative contributions to the community. In 2003, the Illinois American String Teachers Association with NSOA honored Marcia with the "Outstanding Studio Teacher" award. She has been a finalist for Bradley University’s “Award of Excellence” three times. Her students regularly win competitions, awards and scholarships. Marcia holds the Graduate Diploma from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where she studied with James Buswell, and a Master of Music in Violin Performance degree from Ohio University.
