Although Dr. McWilliams is a violist and a senior member of ACLU (Alto Clef Lovers United), he now surprisingly finds himself, since retiring from the Onslow Public School System, teaching a large class of fledgling violinists ranging in age from 2nd grade to college. With the more advanced students, he’s created a strolling string group called the Starlight Strings, and they recently performed for the grand opening of a Barnes & Noble book store here in Jacksonville. Dr. McWilliams also teaches part-time at Coastal Carolina Community College. In his spare time, Dr. McWilliams enjoys pursuing his lifelong interest in astronomy and recording his old LPs and 78s onto CDs. A devoted chamber music player, McWilliams has previously published arrangements of Haydn and Mozart sonatas, a Suite of Scottish and Irish Airs transcribed from Beethoven, and a Medley of Russian Folk Songs arranged for a tour of the former Soviet Union as part of a cultural exchange. Dr. McWilliams first came to Red Lodge as a faculty performer in 1976.
